DELIRIUM NO.2 is the second commission received while serving as Composer-in-Residence with Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra during 2022, and premiered in 2023.

At its origin lies a short poetic fragment from Alchemy of the Word by Arthur Rimbaud, in a Portuguese translation by Mário Cesariny: “Essa cerveja! Essa rua! / A miséria que isto sua! / Mas trago o curso perfeito / Da ventura, dentro do peito. / Saudemo-lo cada vez / Que cantar o galo gaulês. / Ah, é tarefa cumprida: / Está dono da minha vida. / Levou-me alma, corpo, escorços / E dispensa-me de esforços. / Esta cerveja! Essa rua! / A hora da fuga, ó sorte, / Será a hora da morte. / Esta cerveja! / Essa rua! / Tudo isto foi. Hoje, sei saudar a beleza.” [“O seasons, O chateaus! / Where is the flawless soul? / I learned the magic of / Felicity, it enchants us all. / To Felicity, sing life and praise / Whenever Gaul’s cock crows. / Now all desire has gone: / It has made my life its own. / That spell was caught heart and soul / And scattered every trial. / O seasons, O chateaus! / And, oh! The entire text was transposed into musical parameters through various alphabetical matrixes using a letter-to-note association, in which each letter corresponds to a specific musical pitch drawn from a range of scales, melodies, and/or small note cells; these were then combined and fragmented according to the available orchestral palette.
